ACM ICPC World Final

publication date: May 21, 2012

The 36th ACM ICPC World Final took place in University of Warsaw on May 14 – 17. 112 teams of 85 countries (which had been selected among more than five thousand teams in regional quarter- and semifinals) fought for the World Champion title in the closing round. Russia was presented with 13 teams, and 6 teams presented our neighbors from the near abroad.

As a result, the Champion title was won by the students of Saint-Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO). It was the fourth time when the teams of ITMO became the World Champions – there is no more university with such marvelous results in any continent.

The team of Volgograd (technical university), participating in the final for the first time, got the 40th place. It was good for the first time; moreover, among the Russian teams only very respected teams taking part in the world final every year (ITMO, Saint-Petersburg State University, Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology, Saratov State University and Nizhny Novgorod State University) were at the higher positions. So, our team demonstrated that it really rose to an international level and computer science in Volgograd started a new age in its evolution in general.
